Lake Norman No Match for Ponderosa Bassmasters
March 7, 2009
Lake Norman was a busy place on Saturday, March 7th, and no wonder. The temperatures rose well above 70 and lake life began to stir. Well before the weatherman made predictions about the day, the Pondersoa Bassmasters of Statesville had its eyes set on the Lake Norman McCrary Creek Landing off Highway 150 and a day of fishing for bass.
Ralph Faw took top honors of the day, weighing in 12 pounds 1.4 ounces. He also took home Big Fish of the day with a 3 pound 9 ounce fish. “It was a kinda slow day out there,” said Faw. “But I've seen days where it was a lot worse,” he exclaimed. He netted $105 and $70 for his day's work.
Jimmy Beatty worked hard all day and managed a second place showing. “My 8 pounds 8 ounces of fish isn't much, but it was plenty on such a slow day,” he told others. He compared winter cold and rain with big catches in past weekends to today's sunshine, warm and low fish take. “Sometimes it's a great day to fish even without the fish,” he chuckled.
Trail Co-Director, Kris Meredith was happy with the 14 boat turnout for the one-on-one competition. “Our Director, Randy Edwards, couldn't make it today, so I guess I'm the one weighing in the catch,” he said. Meredith took third place honors with 8 pounds 7.2 ounces of bass and won $40.
“We're just glad to be out here, no mater the take,” said Meredith. “You gotta love this weather because it isn't always this good. The lake got pretty busy for the first time this year. I think everyone decided it was a good day to be on the water.”
