Brewer Wins Bass Rustlers Bash
March 20, 2010
The season was on for the Carolina Bass Rustlers and Badin Lake bass were the target. Seven boats from the small club run by Neil Varner slipped into the crowded Circle Drive Access Saturday amidst a melee of larger activity around them.
The club begins its long season in March and ends it the first weekend in December with a Classic on the last weekend in December. Cost is just $30 for the five-fish limit competition and that includes Big Fish. The group numbers sixteen members at present.
For Tony Brewer, the 2010 season was the start every angler needs. His 14.45 pounds captured the top spot and paid him $156. His bag also included Big Fish, a 4.51 pound solo paying an additional $60. “I caught them on spinner baits,” stated the happy angler. “I took advantage of the early bite, but it was one here and one there all morning,” stated Brewer.
Scott Faulkner found 12.39 pounds on the lake and nailed down the second slot. His winnings were $84. Third place went to Darren Flannery with 6.70 pounds, enough for the $24 payout.
The club moves on to Tuckertown on April 10 for it's next gathering and will fish from 7 AM to 4 PM.

Lambeth Wins Rustlers Tournament With 18.01
August 8, 2009
While lakes in the region have remained a challenge for anglers searching for bass for a month-and-a-half now, Tuckertown Reservoir has graced a few boats with thrilling bag weights. One such angler from the Carolina Bass Rustlers experienced all the lake could give last Saturday, as the waters produced 18.01 pounds during a nine-hour stretch. Two other fishermen hooked seven-plus pounders to bring to the scales.
Harold Johnson figured he had the day's Big Fish trophy wrapped up and the plaque mounted on a wall when he bagged his 7 pounder. July and August have seen fish less than three pounds win the honor time after time, so a fish this big should have been a cinch. Anticipation of the crown turned bad at the 3 PM weigh in when Darren Flannery revealed what he had tucked away during his outing. His 7.7 pounder stole the $45 honor and prize out from under Johnson.
Flannery reported finding the monster on the north end of the lake. “I used a buzz bait to catch him,” stated the young angler. “This was my first time fishing this lake, so I was really feeling my way along all day, trying to read the geography.” Flannery also noted he had been fishing with the group for only four months. “It was a mess,” he stated while talking about the battle with the fish. “I thought sure I was gonna lose it. I had a heck of a time getting it up in the boat, but he was hooked real good.” Flannery ended up with 10.7 pounds for he event.
Dean Lambeth had the best day out on the lake with his 18.01 pounds to capture the first spot. The fish earned him the $108 award along with many congratulations from fellow fishermen.
The second place bag was one most would have loved to boat as well. Tony Brewer lured 13.0 pounds into his net that were worth $72 at weigh in. Although outside the paying spots, Johnson bagged an even 12 pounds for third.
The individual competition uses a five fish limit. Darrell and Neil Varner served as weigh master and coordinators of the scale activities. The club moves on to High Rock and the Southmont Access Ramp on September 12th.
