Fishing For Fun Wraps Up Season With 2 Day Event
December 5 and 6, 2009

This time of year, only the heartiest of bass anglers ply the waters of north Carolina. With morning temperatures hovering near or below the freezing mark, the usual fishing challenges become a grueling event of stamina and grit. The Fishing For Fun bass club ventured out this past weekend for not just one day, but two days of bass hunting in some of the worst conditions this season.

The end-of-year Fish Off drew thirteen boats to the landing of Norman and Badin Lakes Saturday and Sunday. The group used the Blythe and Circle Drive Access areas as blast off and weigh in points. Both days began at 8 AM and ended at 4 PM.

Saturday's weather conditions brought rain, wind and predicted snow squalls in the afternoon as air temperatures plummeted late in the day. Sunday's beginnings saw 27 degrees awaiting the anglers, although the day warmed to about 46 degrees.

Todd Barbee, leader of the Fishing For Fun club, managed to find the greatest total of bass over the two days. His 9.6.5 pounds on Norman and 12.9.6 on Badin gave him a 22.61 combined total, enough to squeak out a narrow win.

Frankie Hunt pulled in a close second place finish with 21.72 total pounds. Joel Robinson caught Big Fish on Day Two, bringing his total weight to 19.4.4 pounds. He caught 7.9.2 pounds on Day One and finished at Badin with 11.9.2 pounds.

Fourth place in the Fish Off went to Greg Robinson, who found 14.9.7 pounds for both days. George Linker placed fifth with 14.0.3 pounds. Joe Swaim took the final paying place with 8.7.5 pounds.

In a race to the finish, Joel Robinson captured the club's Season Points Race to claim the 2009 Championship for the season.

The Fishing For Fun club fishes a number of the Yadkin Chain lakes in an eight event season.
