Rocky Bottom Bass Club Kicks Off 2010 With Feb 2 Meeting
January, 2010
Rocky Bottom Bass Club will hold its sign-up meeting next Tuesday night
at the Pioneer Restaurant in Archdale/High Point. For those looking
to join a simple bass club, this is the one. RBBC is a non federated club,
so dues are much less and the rules are a lot less strict.
In essence, RBBC is a wildcat once a month. Each tournament pays out first,
second, and third place along with Big Fish for the day. The club uses a
points system to determine the year-end winners, which again, pays out
first, second, and third places for the year, along with Big Fish of the
year.
"This is really a good group of guys we have; most of us meet for breakfast each morning before we fish", stated Andy Nix, club president. "I have been president over this club for 9 years, and we have never had an argument or disagreement whatsoever. I'm proud to be associated with this group of guys".
If you are not familiar with the Archdale/High Point area, the Pioneer Restaurant is located on South Main Street, or Hwy 311. If you are headed North on Hwy 85, take the 111 exit, left at the light at the end of the exit ramp. The restaurant is roughly 2 miles on the right. If you are headed South on Hwy 85, take exit 111, right at the light at the end of the exit ramp, and Pioneer is about 2 miles on the right.
Starting time for the meeting is 7:30pm to allow everyone to be there. The club has only one meeting a year in order to make it more convenient for the anglers involved.
“If you are interested, we look forward to seeing you there. We fish one tournament a month, mostly on the Yadkin Chain, with the exception of our annual Buggs Island trip in May,” stated Nix. “We have been fishing Buggs in May for as long as the club has existed, and it is a great time, so I”m sure we will be there again this year. Everything in the club is voted on, lakes, dates, etc.”
The club is good about working around anglers' work schedules, whether they have to work or fish another tournament. “We will do our best to pick a Saturday
where everyone can fish,” noted Nix.
Club dues are just a $40.00 membership, which is paid back 100% at the end of the year to the top finishers. Anglers can fish alone or as a team. Event entry fees are $35.00 per person, which includes Big Fish, and is paid back 100% at each tournament.
“We look forward to seeing you Tuesday night for those of you who are
interested in joining a simple club and who want an opportunity to meet some great guys,” ended Nix.

Rocky Bottom Bass Club Gears Up New Membership Drive
by Andy Nix and Fishbyte Staff, March 13, 2009
Sometimes it's fun to hit the waters all by yourself looking for bass. But, there's just a touch of competition in all of us that pulls us towards a local club. Low-cost monthly events with hopes of finding a pay-out; knowing you can pit your skills and lake knowledge against others; enjoying some time away from responsibilities with others who feel the same way.... If you are in the High Point/Thomasville/Archdale area, and are looking for an un-affiliated group to join, The Rocky Bottom Bass Club is looking for new members.
With 20 plus years of experience hosting tournaments, the club boasts no pros and only weekend anglers to pit your skills against. “We generally get together before the tournament and have breakfast,” said club president, Andy Nix. “That tells you a lot about who these guys are.” The club has had as many as 25 boaters in past years. “We are looking to add to our membership and have begun a drive to bring more boats to each event,” he added.
In his sixth year as president, Nix said their best event annually is the Buggs Island trip in May. “Most all of the guys go up to Clarksville on Friday and fish throughout the day, only to meet up with everyone at the Lake Motel in Clarksville for an evening of fellowship with other anglers from all over the country.”
The club boasts a superb new web site designed and maintained by Eddie West. (www.RockyBottomBassClub.webs.com) “Eddie has done a great job designing a web site for our members to use, and we recently added a message board for general discussion, said Nix. The web-based tool can be used for any of the members' questions, whether it's directions to a tournament, or to just talk about fishing.
“We have standard rules in our club, mostly local lake rules,” explained Nix. The club went back to points this year instead of going by total pounds. They are in hopes of making it more even for everyone in the club, and making it easier to make up deficits. An angler automatically receives 20 points just for showing up at the tournament.
The Rocky Bottom Bass Club will have one more meeting, this Tuesday night,
March 17th at the Pioneer Resturaunt in Archdale at 7 PM for some of the new guys who have joined since the season-opening first meeting. “We'd love to have anybody that is interested in joining to show up for the meeting so Eddie West and I can go over everything before our first tournament in two weeks at Falls Lake,” ended Nix.

Rocky Bottom B.C. Opens Season At Falls Lake
March 28, 2009
By Andy Nix and Ed West
Falls Lake is beginning to produce this year as water temps steadily climb into the upper 50 degree range, and eight boats from the Rocky Bottom Bass Club timed their season opener almost perfectly March 28th. While other clubs east of them struggled in rain squalls throughout the day, Falls Lake conditions were only overcast for competitors.
“Some of us pre-fished all day on Friday and the fishing was really tough,”stated Director Andy Nix. “It was really hard to put together any pattern.” According to Nix, most fish were caught on a spinner bait, with a few being caught flipping plastics. Members reported very little wind all day, just the heavy overcast, which kept water temps in various locations ranging from 53 to 58 degrees.
Members fired away from the landing at 7:30 AM and went looking for their five-fish limit until their 3:30 PM weigh in at the Upper Barton Creek facility. When the scales told the final story, Craig Garvin and Jeff Barnes of Archdale boated the heaviest total for the day with 18 pounds 9 ounces and swept the $210 in first-place prize money. They also found the Big Fish for the day, a 6.13 pounder which added $70 to their pickings.
Ron Anderson and Corey Kimbrough of Highpoint ran a close second with 16.15 pounds and claimed $126 for their efforts.
The final paying spot was won by loner Andy Nix of Thomasville in a competition that allows single or team competitors. His 9.5 pounds were enough for him to pocket the third place, $84 prize.
Derrek Loflin and Jerry Hopkins finished just out of the money with 7.7 pounds, while Derreck Tussey and Carty Sealy finished fifth with 7.4 pounds.
The Rocky Bottom Bass Club holds eight tournaments a year, two of them being two-day events, the first at Buggs Island in May, and a second at both Tuckertown and High Rock in October. The rest of their schedule is played out on the Yadkin Chain of lakes. Their next event is April 11th at Tuckertown Reservoir.

Butner And West Win Rocky Bottom Bass Club At High Rock
June 13, 2009

An Archdale, NC team of anglers bested all competitors June 13 when the Rocky Bottom Bass Club challenged the waters at High Rock. Eight boat teams from the group blasted off from the Southmont Landing at safelight looking to net what so many other clubs had missed in recent events. With water levels about as tall as can be in the pond, access to some feeder creeks has been cut off. Only the lowest profile bass boats have been able to slip under trestles to nose up those alleys.
According to Andy Nix, director of the group, the Rocky Bottom members ran into the same end result as others. “Fishing was tough and we had very few limits being weighed in,” he noted. “Everyone was catching fish, but finding decent size was a problem.”
Mark Butner and Eddie West fought through this dilemma as best possible, managing to bring five fish weighing 12.6 pounds to the scales to lead the day's efforts. Their take home pay totaled $225. Second placers were Ron Anderson and Corey Kimbrough, who found 11.1 pounds and the $135 paycheck to go with it.
Third placers, Vernon Wilson and Andy Wilson brought in 11.6 pounds and won $90. The tournament paid three positions. Fourth place went to Carty Sealy and Derreck Tussey who managed 10.11 pounds, while Craig Garvin and Jeff Barnes rounded out the top five teams with 8.14 pounds. Anderson and Kimbrough found Big Fish in the event, hauling in a 4.12 pounder to grab the $75 payout.
Rocky Bottom Bass Club is a Highpoint/Archdale group that has one tournament a month. They are looking for a few more boats to fill a 15-boat limit. While the events are team tournaments, anglers may fish alone. There is a five fish limit. The club moves on to Tuckertown Reservoir July 13 for the fifth of eight events.

Nix Wins Two-Day, Two-Lake Rocky Bottom Event
Sealy and Tussey win club championship
October 24 and 25, 2009
Day 1 Photos by Ed West
When you face a two-day club competition and a seven pound three ounce toad lands safely in your net on the first day, you know your chances of winning it all have been given a big boost. That single fish made all the difference once the Rocky Bottom Bass Club held its final weigh in at the Southmont Landing on High Rock this past weekend. About three pounds of total bass weight was the difference between the first and second place winners.
The club held a season-ending, two-day competition that spanned both Tuckertown Reservoir (Saturday) and High Rock (Sunday). Weights from both lakes decided the winners and the also fished. The club began its 2009 season in March and fished each month on either a Yadkin Chain pond, Falls or Buggs Island. They are seeking additional members to fill out a fifteen boat field at each event. They are located in the Archdale and Trinity area of North Carolina and have been in existence since 1987.
Andy Nix, the club's president, was the angler with the big fish fortune at Tuckertown, hauling in a 7.13 pounder that was part of a 15.7 pound first day. It was also the biggest fish caught all season by any member. He led all others after Saturday, but only narrowly. Carty Sealy and Dereck Tussey were a hair behind with 15.36 pounds. The two boats continued to do battle on day 2, but Nix upped the ante by nearly a pound on High Rock, bagging 16.4 pounds to add to his score. Carty and Tussey managed a healthy 14.14 pound bag on the more northern lake to finish second.
That second place finish was good enough to place the partners ahead of all others in the season-long points race. They were named the 2009 Club Champions at the end of the event. They beat Nix by two points.
Rounding out the top three finishers on the weekend was Michael Kinnard fishing solo both days. His combined total weight on the weekend was 26.9 pounds. He scored 15.9 of those on High Rock. Big Fish on day 2 was caught by Kinnard, a 5.15 pounder. Kinnard took over the third spot from Derreck Loflin and Jerry Hopkins, who held that spot after the Tuckertown first stage.
